Informed consent in biobanking of samples
Informed consent starts with effective patient-doctor communication. This was highlighted by a lecture given by Dr Margarita Tareyn during the GYNOCARE conference held at Sofia University in Bulgaria.
Dr Bridget Ellul from the University of Malta is a member of the Research Ethics Committee (REC) Taskforce and ELSI Adviser to BBMRI-ERIC, has delivered a keynote lecture during on informed consent during the final GYNOCARE Conference 'They are rare but they are there' held in Bulgaria in 2023. She presented results following a survey on informed consent for biobanking of samples derived from rare gynaecological cancers, which she conducted as part of a virtual mobility grant together with Dr Sharon O'Toole, leader of WG2 and Prof Olga Tzortzatou, leader of WG3.
An informative video on biobanking was prepared by a team from St. James Hospital Dublin. Click here to watch.
